SUMMARY:Walk and Talk - River Exe Walk and Talk\, Exeter - Loss to Cancer
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 7th December 2024 we will be hosting an informal walk and talk event along the River Exe in Exeter. \n\n\n\nWho is this walk for? This walk is for adults (18+) who have lost a loved one to cancer. It’s a space to connect with others who truly understand\, in a supportive and relaxed environment. \n\n\n\nWhere will we be walking? The walk will start at Exeter St David’s railway station and head the River Exe and return back to the beginning. The walk will last approximately 2 hours\, and is designed to be gentle and enjoyable. \n\n\n\nFeeling nervous? We understand that joining a group like this might feel daunting – it’s completely normal to feel unsure. Many of our walkers have felt the same way at first. Rest assured\, this is a welcoming and supportive space. You can take things at your own pace\, and there’s no pressure to talk more than you feel comfortable. Here is a quote from one of our previous walkers: \n\n\n\n“It was a small enough group that we could engage in deeper conversation. We all went for coffee afterwards. Honestly\, the best grief event I’ve ever attended. Thank you Loss Foundation!!” \n\n\n\nWhat to expect: \n\n\n\n\nA small group of up to 10 walkers to keep things intimate and comfortable.\n\n\n\nA friendly volunteer host who will walk and chat with you\, making sure everyone feels at ease.\n\n\n\nThe chance to spend time outdoors with people who’ve experienced similar loss.\n\n\n\n\nWe ask that you let us know in advance if you’d like to bring a guest (as spaces are limited) and kindly note that pets and children cannot join the walk. \n\n\n\nWhat are the timings for the day?Walkers will be meeting at 2pm. We aim to complete the walk just over two hours later\, at approximately 4pm. This will be a very casual walk. \n\n\n\nWho is the host? Our lovely volunteer James will be hosting this walk. He will have a yellow Loss Foundation sign and will be wearing a lanyard. \n\n\n\nDo I need to be an experienced walker? Not at all! This walk isn’t about fitness or speed. It’s about being outdoors\, meeting others\, and finding comfort in shared experiences. Whether you’re a seasoned walker or a total beginner\, you’re very welcome. \n\n\n\nReady to join us?Sign up by completing the registration form below\, and we’ll send you an email with all the details you need to take part. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nYou will be sent an email with full details for the walk. \n\n\n\nPlease note that we are not a crisis service\, so if you are in need of immediate support please do reach out to Samaritans who provide immediate listening support. They can be reached on 116 123. \n\n\n\nWe send all participants a short survey after the session to get their feedback so that we can improve our services for all. Thank you for your contribution in helping us improve our support.

SUMMARY:Grief Support Meeting – Understanding grief and how to support ourselves in it
DESCRIPTION:Theme: This support group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer or to coronavirus \n\n\n\nJoin our online grief support meeting on Wednesday 11th December 2024 from 7:00pm-8:30pm. \n\n\n\nWelcome to our 1.5-hour grief support meeting online. This event will focus on understanding various common aspects and experiences in grief and how to support ourselves in it. \n\n\n\nThe event will be led by one of our Clinical Psychologists and take an active therapeutic approach\, which means it will involve some talking as a group but also some structured content focusing specifically on understanding the process of grief and looking at ways of supporting yourself in it. \n\n\n\nAt The Loss Foundation we are committed to providing the best support possible to those who use our services. We know it’s not a one size fits all when it comes to grief\, and therefore we are always keen to learn if and how our support is beneficial. People partaking in our online workshop will be invited to complete some questionnaires before and after the event – all of which are made anonymous. \n\n\n\nTo ensure that the groups run as well as possible online we will be limiting the number of people able to join the session. We often have more people signing up for each group than there are spaces. We know it is difficult to predict how you will feel on the day itself\, but please only complete registration if you think you will be able to attend. \n\n\n\nThis event is for people aged 18 and over. Please get in touch with us if you are looking for support for children so we can signpost you to other organisations. \n\n\n\nHow will this work? You can register to join the grief support meeting by clicking the Registration button below. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nYou will be sent an email with instructions for joining the video and you can click in at the time of the meeting to get started and meet others. \n\n\n\nPlease note that we are not a crisis service\, so if you are in need of immediate support please do reach out to Samaritans who provide immediate listening support. They can be reached on 116 123. \n\n\n\nMuch like our in-person events\, our online support groups are informal and welcoming\, and the space is there for you to use it as you need it on the day. Our excellent volunteers will be there to welcome you online and support you. \n\n\n\nWe send all participants a short survey after the session to get their feedback so that we can improve our services for all. Thank you for your contribution in helping us improve our support.

SUMMARY:Online Christmas Day Get-Together for people bereaved by cancer
DESCRIPTION:Theme: This support group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer \n\n\n\nJoin our online Christmas Day get-together event on Wednesday 25th December 2024 from 9:00-10:00am. \n\n\n\nWe know that Christmas can be a particularly difficult time when a loved one has died. It may be that you want to avoid Christmas all together. You do what you need to do\, and know that you can join this event to meet others who are also experiencing grief at this time of year. \n\n\n\nThis particular session will be partly facilitated and a mixture of one of our grief support meetings and an online social to meet others who have lost a loved one to cancer. \n\n\n\nOur founder Dr Erin Thompson will be hosting the event and will welcome you and run through some guidelines. She will help introduce the group and then be leaving you to talk privately with one another. The aim is to make the session as close to meeting in person as possible… we know it’s very different\, but the aim is just to meet and chat with others who have experienced a similar loss. And it is okay to not talk about your loss too! You do what you need to do. \n\n\n\nWe will NOT be limiting the number of people who are able to register for our online get-together events. We think there should be events that don’t have a waiting list attached to them. \n\n\n\nIt may be that just a small group of people turn up. However\, if we have a lot of people joining for the event\, we will welcome you all together and create breakout rooms online so that people can speak in smaller groups. \n\n\n\nThis event is for people aged 18 and over. Please get in touch with us if you are looking for support for children so we can signpost you to other organisations. \n\n\n\nHow will this work? \n\n\n\nYou can register to join the online get-together event by clicking the Registration button below. SUMMARY:Walk and Talk - Kew Gardens\, London - Loss to Cancer
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 28th December 2024 we will be hosting an informal walk and talk event around Kew Gardens. \n\n\n\nThis event is specifically for people who have lost a loved one to cancer. \n\n\n\nThis event is for people aged 18 and over. \n\n\n\nWhere are we walking? The walk will be around Kew Gardens and will last approximately two hours. \n\n\n\nCan anyone take part? Our walk is open to any adult who has had a loved one die from cancer. The aim is to give you space to meet and talk with others who have experienced a similar loss\, which our users tell us they find extremely helpful. \n\n\n\nWe will be limiting the number of walkers to 11 people so that we do not have too large a walking group. One of our volunteers will be hosting the event to walk and talk alongside you. \n\n\n\nPlease note that we do not allow guests unless you let us know in advance (as we are capping the number of attendees for each walk). \n\n\n\nPets and children are also not able to attend. \n\n\n\nWhat are the timings for the day?Walkers will be meeting at 10:30am. SUMMARY:Walk and Talk - Havant Coastal Walk\, Hampshire - Loss to Cancer
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday 29th December 2024 we will be hosting an informal walk and talk event around the Havant Coast. \n\n\n\nWho is this walk for? \n\n\n\nThis walk is for adults (18+) who have lost a loved one to cancer. It’s a space to connect with others who truly understand\, in a supportive and relaxed environment. \n\n\n\nWhere will we be walking? \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin in Havant and follow the scenic Hayling Billy Trail down to Chichester Harbour. If the tide allows\, we’ll stroll along the beach to Warblington before heading back. The walk will take about an hour and is designed to be gentle and enjoyable. \n\n\n\nFeeling nervous? \n\n\n\nWe understand that joining a group like this might feel daunting – it’s completely normal to feel unsure. \n\n\n\nWhat are the timings for the day?Walkers will be meeting at 10:00am. We aim to complete the walk just over one hour later\, at approximately 11:15am. \n\n\n\nWho is the host? \n\n\n\nOur lovely volunteer Steve will be hosting this walk. Look out for his friendly face on arrival. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo I need to be an experienced walker? \n\n\n\nNot at all! This walk isn’t about fitness or speed. It’s about being outdoors\, meeting others\, and finding comfort in shared experiences. Whether you’re a seasoned walker or a total beginner\, you’re very welcome. \n\n\n\nReady to join us? \n\n\n\nSign up by completing the registration form below\, and we’ll send you an email with all the details you need to take part. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nYou will be sent an email with full details for the walk. \n\n\n\nPlease note that we are not a crisis service\, so if you are in need of immediate support please do reach out to Samaritans who provide immediate listening support. SUMMARY:Time After Loss - A Supportive Bereavement Retreat
DESCRIPTION:What is the Time After Loss Bereavement Retreat? \n\n\n\nThis bereavement retreat is for anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer\, whether it be a friend\, partner or relative. The aim of the retreat is to create a space for people to exchange thoughts\, feelings and experiences with others who have shared a similar kind of loss. \n\n\n\nOften in grief people alternate between feeling overwhelmed and trying to adapt to a new life without their loved one. Our retreat will cater for your needs regardless of where you are in your bereavement process. \n\n\n\nWhat will the retreat include? \n\n\n\nBased in farm cottages in the beautiful countryside of Kent the weekend will include group support sessions and opportunities for one-to-one support. Our group sessions will be complimented with mindfulness and country walks to help you relax. We will also teach attendees practical techniques to encourage compassion towards themselves during difficult times\, and we will provide tips for people who are struggling with day-to-day things\, such as troubled sleep and lack of motivation. There is also a games room with snooker and table-tennis\, should you want some time doing something playful. The weekend will provide a structured programme including plenty of free time for you\, and all sessions and activities are optional. \n\n\n\nWe will be inviting attendees to complete some questionnaires before and after their retreat experience – this helps us learn about the benefit of the weekend in more detail\, and ensures we can carry on providing the best support possible. \n\n\n\nThe retreat will run from Friday evening (5pm) to Sunday lunchtime (1:30pm) and is inclusive of meals and snacks provided by our brilliant in-house chef. \n\n\n\nPlease note that we will be providing vegetarian meals for the entirety of the retreat. \n\n\n\nWe will try our best to create a home from home for you. \n\n\n\nYou can view further information on the bereavement retreat venue at the following website: http://www.mockettsfarm.co.uk/ \n\n\n\nHow do I get there? \n\n\n\nThe best way to get to the cottages is by car. If you are driving to the venue\, the postcode to use is ME12 4BQ. \n\n\n\nThe nearest train station is Queenborough station. The train journey from London St Pancras to Queenborough station takes an hour and a half. From there you can get a taxi to the cottages\, which takes approximately 20 minutes\, and costs approximately £18-£20. We can arrange shared taxis for people arriving on the same train to lower the cost. At past retreats attendees with cars have been happy to drop others off at the train station on their way home. \n\n\n\nWho is it run by? \n\n\n\nThe retreat is facilitated by a lovely and warm group of Loss Foundation volunteers who specialise in grief and bereavement. It has been designed for adults. Whilst we realise that children are affected by bereavement as well\, we are unable to provide specialist support for children at this time. \n\n\n\nHow many people will be there? \n\n\n\nWe will have 18 attendees\, 5 volunteers and our wonderful chef. \n\n\n\nAre pets allowed? \n\n\n\nUnfortunately we are not able to have pets at the retreat. \n\n\n\nHow do I buy tickets? How do I buy tickets? \n\n\n\nTickets for this event will go on sale on the 5th August 2024 \n\n\n\nYou can buy tickets through Eventzilla in the link below and pay via Paypal (credit card)\, or a bank transfer. Please note we are unable to offer refunds for cancellations. \n\n\n\nCan I pay in installments? \n\n\n\nYes you can! If you want to pay in 2 installments\, this can be done via the bank transfer payment option only. Please select this payment method and pay half the total amount (including any Eventzilla fees) and you can pay the remainder in a months time. If you are having any difficulty with paying for a place do get in touch with us and we will try to help as best as we can. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook Your Place Here

The only difference is that the closed groups will allow for the same group of people to meet each month for 4 months. SUMMARY:Walk and Talk - Guisborough Forest Walk and Talk\, North Yorkshire - Loss to Cancer
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday 9th February 2025 we will be hosting an informal walk and talk event starting at Guisborough Walkway in North Yorkshire. \n\n\n\nWho is this walk for? This walk is for adults (18+) who have lost a loved one to cancer. It’s a space to connect with others who truly understand\, in a supportive and relaxed environment. \n\n\n\nWhere are we walking?Depending on the group on the day\, we will either walk along the old railway line and back or adventure into Guisborough woods.  It will last approximately 2 hours. \n\n\n\nThis event is specifically for people who have lost a loved one to cancer. \n\n\n\nThis event is for people aged 18 and over. \n\n\n\nWhat are the timings for the day?Walkers will be meeting at 10:30am. We aim to complete the walk at approximately 12:15pm. \n\n\n\nWho is the host? Our lovely volunteer Elaine will be hosting this walk. She will have a yellow Loss Foundation sign and will be wearing a lanyard. \n\n\n\nDo I need to be a professional walker?Definitely not. The event is about being together\, spending time with others who have experienced similar things\, and being outdoors. It’s not about being fit or racing. \n\n\n\nHow do I get involved? To register for this event you will need to complete the registration form below: \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nYou will be sent an email with full details for the walk. It’s a space to connect with others who truly understand\, in a supportive and relaxed environment. \n\n\n\nWhere will we be walking? The walk will be around University Parks\, Oxford. The walk will last approximately 1 and a half hours\, and is designed to be gentle and enjoyable. \n\n\n\nThis event is specifically for people who have lost a loved one to cancer. \n\n\n\nThis event is for people aged 18 and over. \n\n\n\nWhat are the timings for the day?Walkers will be meeting at 11am. We aim to complete the walk just over one and half hours later\, at approximately 12:30pm. This will be a very casual walk. \n\n\n\nWho is the host? Our lovely volunteer Meltem will be hosting this walk. She will have a yellow Loss Foundation sign and will be wearing a lanyard. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo I need to be an experienced walker? Not at all! This walk isn’t about fitness or speed. It’s about being outdoors\, meeting others\, and finding comfort in shared experiences. Whether you’re a seasoned walker or a total beginner\, you’re very welcome. \n\n\n\nReady to join us?Sign up by completing the registration form below\, and we’ll send you an email with all the details you need to take part: \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nYou will be sent an email with full details for the walk. \n\n\n\nPlease note that we do not allow guests unless you let us know in advance (as we are capping the number of attendees for each walk). \n\n\n\nPets and children are also not able to attend. \n\n\n\nPlease note that we are not a crisis service\, so if you are in need of immediate support please do reach out to Samaritans who provide immediate listening support.
