Grief is a natural part of being human, yet up to 25% of grieving individuals may face prolonged and distressing symptoms, impacting their productivity and necessitating additional support. Effective support extends beyond meeting legal obligations for compassionate leave.

Studies consistently demonstrate that inadequate workplace support during grief can adversely affect companies. Productivity may decline post-loss due to issues such as decreased focus, impaired judgment, stress, depression, loss of motivation, and substance misuse. A lack of empathy, compassion, and support can lead to significant repercussions for both employees and employers, including absenteeism, errors, and financial implications.

Our charity has found that taking a proactive approach to addressing grief in the workplace benefits not only the bereaved employees but also their managers and other team members.
