Following one of our groups, one of our beneficiaries kindly shared their thoughts which we thought may be helpful for all:
“As is normal with me on my home from a group session, I often think about what we talked about and what was said; especially being somewhat of a reflector. At this group I think the main areas that people talked about can be summarised as:
- Who is or is not there for us;
- Missing the love, both received and given; and
- Music and Lyrics.
When feeling low I often play through my mind some particular lyrics which I find very helpful, I have used these lyrics for many years. So when I got home I listened to the whole song and realised that the whole song summed up everything we had talked about. This is not some sloppy love song but a song written by Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt of Status Quo.
I have listed the full set of lyrics below along with a link to a website where the lyrics appear and the song can be listened to.
The first two verses are the ones I find particularly helpful.

Reason for Living (Rossi / Parfitt)
I felt in need of some loving
So I sat down on a wall
I tried to find a reason for living
But I couldn’t find a reason at all
So I owned up to my maker
And I started to say a prayer
I waited for an answer
But there wasn’t anybody there
I thought there should have been someone
But I wasn’t quite sure who
It finished me to find there was no-one
That I could take my troubles to
So I knelt down by my bedside
And I started to say a prayer
It was when I asked for nothing
I could feel that there was somebody there
I’m looking still, but it’s easy
Cause I know which way to go
It doesn’t matter how long it takes me
Cause there’s someone there to help me who knows
All the things that I am after
All the loving that I want to share
It’s so hard but I don’t mind
Cause there really is somebody there
I felt in need of some loving
So I sat down on a wall
I tried to find a reason for living
But I couldn’t find a reason at all
So I owned up to my maker
And I started to say a prayer
I waited for an answer
But there wasn’t anybody there”
