Here at The Loss Foundation we recognise the importance in connecting with others over longer periods of time, which is why we host bereavement weekend retreats and day events throughout the year.
Our weekend retreat, Time After Loss, is a weekend of support for those who have lost a loved one to cancer – be they a friend, partner, or relative. It’s a space where you can connect, share, and heal with others who understand your unique journey through grief. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed or seeking ways to adapt to life without your loved one, this grieving retreat is designed to meet you where you are in your bereavement process.
Our day event, Sunday Sanctuary, is a day of compassionate support dedicated to making space for grief and connecting with others who have experienced similar losses.
What does the weekend retreat include?
Set in farm cottages in the picturesque Kent countryside, the weekend offers a blend of group support sessions, mindfulness practices, and country walks to help you unwind. Our trained facilitators will guide you through practical techniques, fostering self-compassion during challenging times and providing tips for coping with everyday challenges that come with grief. The weekend features a structured program with ample free time, and all sessions and activities are optional.
The retreat spans from Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime and includes delicious meals and snacks prepared by our in-house chef. Please note that we provide a vegetarian menu for the entirety of the retreat.
What does the Sunday Sanctuary day event include?
Set in a beautiful building in the heart of London, our Sunday Sanctuary events are themed to help people connect with others with very similar losses, e.g. partner loss or parent loss.
It’s a space where you can connect, share, and heal with others who understand your unique journey through grief. We include a range of activities during the day, including a support group space, short meditation exercises, writing in grief, and informal connection time with others.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed or seeking ways to adapt to life without your loved one, this event is designed to meet you wherever you are in your bereavement process.

Who facilitates the events?
Our retreats and day events are led by a dedicated group of Loss Foundation volunteers with expertise in grief and bereavement. These events are designed for adults, and while we understand that children also experience grief, we are unable to provide specialised support for them at this time.

“This retreat meant the world to me… I was going to book again this year but… then I realised, oh my gosh, I’m doing better! Amazing and frankly miraculous. Best leave the space for someone it can really do wonders for, like it did for me. Forever indebted”
